Westhab was founded in 1981 to address the affordable housing crisis in Westchester County. In our early years, we acquired vacant buildings and renovated them into quality transitional and permanent housing. In response growing homelessness, Westhab expanded its focus to renovate and operate shelters in Westchester.

— YWCA of Yonkers Women’s Shelter Program

YWCA Yonkers today continues to be a valued multi-service center providing services to meet the needs of a growing, diverse and dynamic city. When the YWCA opened its doors at 87 South Broadway in 1914, it was said to include “the residence, gymnasium, welcoming lounge, auditorium, class and meeting rooms”. The reputation of the YWCA was that of “the friendly place”. Today, the building as mostly the same as it was then, with the exception of the swimming pool, which was added in 1932 but closed in 1999.

To end hunger by organizing food, information and support for community survival, empowerment, and dignity. Food Bank For New York City has been working to end food poverty in our five boroughs for over 35 years. As the city’s largest hunger-relief organization, we employ a multifaceted approach centered on helping low-income New Yorkers overcome their circumstances and achieve greater independence.

— St. Barnabas Church

The Parish was established in 1910 and placed under the patronage of St. Barnabas with the Reverend Michael Reilly as the first Pastor. The Parish included what is known as the Woodlawn section of the Bronx and McLean Heights/Yonkers entity, the Church and Rectory were erected on the actual line separating the two cities.

The Little Sisters of the Poor are an international congregation of Roman Catholic women religious founded in 1839 by Saint Jeanne Jugan. Together with a diverse network of collaborators, we serve the elderly poor in over 30 countries around the world.

Our mission as Sisters of Charity is to share in the ongoing mission of Jesus by responding to the signs of the times in the spirit of St. Vincent de Paul and St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, by revealing the Father’s love in our lives and in our varied ministries with and for all in need,especially the poor.

YCAP’s role is to work with residents and partners to address the needs of low- income individuals, families and neighborhoods.The basic approach to accomplishing this broad objective is through community empowerment.
